Fad or Fab? What you need to know about wearable tech

Many experts believe that by 2025 we will all be connected to the Internet of Things via our wearable tech. But did you know that wearable tech actually has its roots in casino scams from the 60s and 70s? That’s right – back in the day, shrewd inventors created tiny, undetectable technology to help con artists sneak into casinos and card count, increasing their odds and potential winnings in Vegas and beyond. Pretty different from that FitBit or Jawbone Up you’re wearing right this second isn’t it? Or from the Nest thermostat you installed to help you reclaim part of your utility bill?

While we may still be disappointed in the lack of flying cars we were promised by George and Judy Jetson, wearable tech is moving at a rapid pace and many questions about its standards and governance remain.
